Acts 28

Paul minister in Malta (melite Island) 

1 And having been rescued, we then recognize that we have bidded/called forth to the Island of Malita.

2 And the non-greek foreigners (barbarians) furnished us with extraordinary kindness (philanthropy); for they stand by to kindle fire, because of the cold and receive us all near because of the rain.

3 And the crowd gathered dry sticks, even for the warmth/heat from the fire and a certain poisonous snake proceed out and Paul lay hand upon it and seize/catch it.

4 and, as the non-Greek babarians saw the dangerous animal hanging from his hand, they say towards one another, this man is altogether a murderer, whom having been rescued from the sea, justice will not let him live.

5 therefore, he indeed shake off the wild-animal into the fire, and suffer no injury.

6 However, many anticipate, he is about to swell or suddenly fall down dead, but, upon anticipating, they see that nothing out of place happens unto him, they turned it about and say, he is a god.

7 moreover, around that place, is the land of the foremost of the sub-rulers of the Island, named Publius (popular) who entertained us and lodge us hospitably for three days.

8 it happens also that, the father of Publius was lying down, and continuously have fever (high temperature) and dysentery (blood flux), to whom Paul, entered and make prayer, having laid hand on him, he was healed.

9 Also as these happened, even the rest in the island who have infirmities came and healing was ministered to them.

10 who even honor us with much honor and on setting sail, they further add things towards our needs.

Apostle Paul finally arrived at Rome 

11 Moreover, amid three months, having stayed over for the rainy season in the island, we set sail in the ship of Alexandrian, side labelled/with insignia: Dioskuri (Castor and Pollux twins of Jupiter),

12 And we were brought down unto Syracuse (capital of Sicily) and stay over for three days,

13 from there, we arrived unto Rhegium (in Italy). And for the second time, the south breeze FURTHER-HAPPENED (epiginomai) and amid one day, it was totally removed, and we come unto Puteoli (mineral spring in Italy),

14 where we found brethren, who beseech us to stay over with them for seven days, and thus we will go unto Rome.

15 And the brethren at three taverns (business hubs for travelers), who are as far as Appii forum/station (60km from Rome); heard about us from there, and came to meet us. They saw and were grateful to God for the bravery/audacity received by Paul.

16 but, when we entered into Rome, + the Centurion delivered the prisoners to Captain of the guards+, and permit Paul to stay on his own, together with soldiers to guard him.

Paul ministry in Rome

17 Moreover, amid three days, he happens to call the Chiefs of the Jews together, and having convened, he says towards them, fellow-men and brethren, I have done nothing against the people, or the customs of (our) fathers, to be surrendered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,

18 some of who examined me, and the sub-rulers were willing to release me, because, there was no cause of death in me.

19 but, the Jews objected, which necessitated the appeal to Caesar, as someone whose my nation has no thing to accuse of.

20 therefore, for this cause I invite, to see and to converse with you; for, it is on account of the hope of Israel, I have this chains lying all around me.

21 so, they said to him, we neither receive a write up from Judea about you, nor anyone arrives to report you to the brethren, or preach anything evil about you,

22 Moreover, it is worthy to hear from you, concerning this well known sect, that indeed exercise mind upon what to us is universally disputed.

23 so, they arrange for a day, and come towards him unto the lodging place, who expound more, and fully testify on the kingdom of God, and persuade them concerning Jesus, from the law of Moses and the prophets, from morning till evening.

24 And indeed some are convinced of things he said; but some were unbelieving.

25 however, being non-harmonious towards one another, they dismissed Paul, having said, one utterance (rhema) by the Holy Spirit, (which was) well preached to us through Prophets Isaiah to the fathers, 

26 saying, go to this people, and says, in hearing, you will hear, and not understand; and in seeing, you will see, and not clearly discern.

27 for, the heart of this people are thickened, and their ears heavy to hear, and their eyes closed, not to see at any time with the eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and return to be cured. (Is 6:9-10)

28 therefore, be it well known to you, that God has sent out this same salvation to the heathen-nations, who will listen!

29 + and having said this, the Jews went away, having much discussions among themselves+.

30 Moreover, he stays in his own rented house for two complete years, and welcome all who entered towards him,

31 proclaiming the kingdom of God, and teach all things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, with boldness, unhindered.
