Luke 20

Chief Priests criticize the authority used by Jesus in doing miracles 

1 And it happens on one day, as He was teaching the people in the temple, announcing the good news, the chief Priests and the Scribes together with Presbyters stand upon Him,

2 and they speak to Him, saying, tell us, in what authority are you doing these things, or who is the One, who gave you this authority?

3 So, He answered and said to them, I will also ask on a matter and  you will tell me:

4 the baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?

5 so, they reason together towards themselves, and say, in case we say from heaven, He would say, then, what is the reason, you didn't believe him?

6 and, in case we say, from men, all people will stone us, for, they are convinced that John was a prophet.

7 And they answer, we are not aware from where.

8 And Jesus tells them, neither will I tell you, in what authority, I do these things.

Parable of a land-lord and the wicked farmers 

9 so He begins to speak this parable to the people. A man plants a vineyard, and lease it to competent farm-workers, and go to a far country, for a space of time.

10 And in a set-time, he sends a servant to the farm-workers, at least, to give him from the fruits of the vineyard. But, the farm-workers beat and send him away empty.

11 and in addition, he dispatches another servant, but, to him likewise, they beat and entreat shamefully and send away empty.

12 And he dispatches the third in addition, and they traumatize/wound him and throw him out.

13 So, the lord of the vineyard says, what is to be done? I will dispatch my beloved son; perhaps, they will respect him.

14 But, as the farm-workers saw him, they deliberated towards themselves, saying this is the heir. We will kill him, at least, his inheritance will become ours.

15 So, they cast him outside the vineyard and kill him. Therefore, what will the lord of the vineyard do to them?

16 So, having heard it, they say, it will never happen! HE will come and destroy these farm-workers, and give the vineyard to others.

17 moreover, having gazed upon them, He says, therefore, is this why it is written? The Stone which the builders rejected, this (stone) has happened to be at the (top) head of the corner? (Ps 118:22)

18 and, upon all, whoever possibly kick/rock upon that stone, for it to fall down, will fall and be crushed. (Matt 21:44) 

19 And the Scribes and chief-Priests seek to lay hand upon Him, in the same hour; but they fear the people, for they know that He speaks this parable towards them.

Jesus affirm payment of taxes to Ceasar for peace sake

20 And, they send out installed-spies, who pretend to be righteous-men, to be watching Him and at least to catch His words against the ancient-time authority, so as to surrender Him to the Governor. 

21 And they question Him, saying, Teacher, we know that you talk plainly as you have received and do not teach upon appearances, but you teach the truth in the way of God.

22 Is it right for us to give tribute/tax to Ceasar or not?

23 so, having fully considered their trickery, He says to them (why tempting Me?)

24 Show Me a denarius (pence): whose image and inscription does it have? And they say, Ceasars.

25 So, He says to them, then give away things of Caesar's to Caesar, and things of God to God.

26 And they can not catch Him upon His utterances before the people; and they wonder upon His answer, and keep silent.

Jesus educated the Sadducees on resurrection 

27 Moreover, certain Sadducees, who deny resurrection, that it does not exist, came near and question Him, 

28 they say, Teacher, Moses wrote for us, in case, a brother of anyone dies and have a wife, and he is childless, at least, his brother will take the wife, and beget offspring for his brother.

29 therefore, there were seven brothers; and the first, took the wife, but died childless;

30 and the second, + took the wife, and he died childless+;

31 and the third took her; also, even the seven likewise, died, and leave no child behind.

32 at last of all, even the woman died.

33 therefore, which of them will the woman become his wife in the resurrection? For the seven had her as wife.

34 And Jesus says to them, the children of this age marry and give in marriage;

35 however, those who will be counted worthy to secure that age of resurrection from the dead, will neither marry nor give in marriage;

36 for they can not die any longer: they are angelic/like angels; and are sons of God, being sons by resurrection.

37 however, that the dead will be raised up; even Moses disclose upon the bush, calling the SUPREME Jehovah as the God of Abraham, and God of Isaac, and God of Jacob;

38 So, He is not, God of the dead, but of the living; no doubt, everyone will live by HIM.

39 some of the Scribes also answer and say, Teacher, You have spoken well.

40 and, they no longer dare to ask Him anything.

Jesus expounded on the relationships of Adonay to king David 

41 Moreso, He says to them, how is it said that Christ is to be a Son of David?

42 For David himself said in books of psalm (set of music), the SUPREME Jehovah said to my Adoni, settle down (continue) from MY Right side,

43 until I possibly put Your enemies, as footstool under your feet. (Ps 110:1)

44 David therefore called Him Adoni (Lord) and how is He his Son?

Beware of the teachers of the law of Moses

45 Moreover, all the people hear Him, saying to disciples,

46 watch out from the Scribes, who desire to walk in long-robes and are fond of greetings in market squares, front-row-seat in the synagogues, and pre-eminence at meal in a supper-feast.

47 who devours, widow's household, and pray for a long time as outward show. These ones will receive more abundant judgment.
